Five steps Denver Nuggets need to take to become a NBA championship contender (Part 2)
3. Sign up Detroit Pistons’ Tayshaun Prince
The Denver Nuggets have been utilizing young Danilo Gallinari at the small forward position in their starting line-up. Gallinari has done a decent job for the Nuggets so far, but the inclusion of a veteran player at the same position
can definitely boost the game of Danilo.
Tayshaun Prince is the perfect player for job, who can guide Gallinari too that plays a better offense than defence. Prince is currently engaged with the NBA team Detroit Pistons. He can coach Gallinari the ways of tweaking his
defensive play and can turn him into a strong player, who can dominate the opposition from both ends of the court.
Besides, Gallinari, Prince could also help Arron Afflalo, although he possesses a good defensive game, but experience will improve his skills remarkably. An improved defence will definitely help the young Nuggets in restricting
the top offensive threats like Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Durant in the playoffs.
Even if Prince fails to limit these offensive threats, he would surely make them less effective and keep their impact low on the game. Tayshaun remained an NBA champion and was selected for the NBA All-Defensive Second Team on
four occasions. So this makes him a valuable commodity for the Nuggets that have young roster and his presence would also strengthen their bench.
4. Sign up Houston Rockets Chuck Hayes
Kenyon Martin has done well at the power forward position with the Nuggets, but because of his fitness issues Denver had to suffer on a lot of occasions. This makes 33 year old Martin an unreliable player and Denver should fix
this problem before going into the next season by getting themselves a player like Chuck Hayes.
Hayes is 28 years old, not too young and neither too old to have fitness issues as Martin do. Hayes last played with the Houston Rockets and showed his set of skills when the franchise was really in need of him to step up and fill
in the huge boots of Yao Ming, who got injured.
With his decent performance at centre position with the Rockets, Hayes was able to secure a spot for him in the team. If Hayes will be handed over the responsibility of a power forward, he would definitely do well at that level.
Since at centre position Hayes had dealt with several offensive threats, therefore it would become relatively easier for him to negotiate with the smaller players at the power forward spot.
Hayes had already shown his brilliance at that position in the previous season, when his responsibilities were changed in Houston. Apart from this, Hayes could be paired with Kenneth Faried to form one of the best defences in the
league. Since both of them bring lot of vigour with them. When combined with Nene Hilario the three of them can create a lot of thrill.
5. Sign up Atlanta Hawks Jamal Crawford
After the departure of Carmelo Anthony, although the Nuggets wrecked a 15-4 record, but All-Star’s absence was felt in the later stages specially during their postseason run. Since no Nugget can match the scoring capability of
Anthony.
In order to cover that deficiency the Nuggets should be pursuing Atlanta Hawks guard Jamal Crawford, who can help the team in the crucial moments of the play, especially when the game is on the line.
He can never be replacement of Anthony at this age, but Crawford can cover some of the scoring with his aggressive offensive play. Although, Crawford has a rough defensive play, but with a mix of skills he can make the difference
that the Nuggets are looking for.
