Five veterans who could lead Arsenal to glory - Part 3
Article continued from Part 2.
When you envision http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 who has undoubtedly been the spine of the team and has successfully captained the team to numerous honours. A fan favorite, it is hard to even realistically think that Chelsea
would let him leave but the current reports are suggesting otherwise.
If he is to leave, a mass fan revolt will highly result and for him to go to London rivals Arsenal, that will be a shot in the chest for many of them. Nevertheless, if the reports are even close to being true and Terry is shown the door at the Bridge, the
departure will be a less than harmonious split as John Terry has time and time again committed himself 200 percent to the club. If the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international is stated to be a surplus to the requirements at the Bridge, he may well feel utter delight at sticking
it to Roman Abramovic and his former employees by taking a trip to the North of London and into the Emirates Stadium. Food for thought.
Matthew Upson (West Ham):
The 32-year-old veteran and captain of West Ham will certainly not stick around with the Hammers in the championship next season and will be leading a host of players who will be exiting the club before the start of next season to look for top tier competitions.
With Avram Grant’s sacking, the West Ham ship has now sunk to lowly depths and the uncertainty surrounding the club will the last thing any good player would want to indulge in.
Upson has been in the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 squad throughout his early career in 1997-2003 but received very little playing time and was firmly relegated to the bench behind the legendary defenders of that Arsenal era. He only made a handful of appearances before he departed
the club to seek regular playing time. Since the time of his departure, he has matured into a very good centre-back and also played for England in the World Cup last summer. Upson will be out of contract this summer and will be available as a free transfer.
It will be a great coup for Arsenal if they can contract him for another two years or even a pay-as-you-play contract.
Although the Englishman has his critics, he is no doubt an experienced and strong centre-back who can provide much needed steel into the Arsenal defence and will be a great cover for whichever of the three Koscielny, Djorou and Koscielny is the first choice
defensive pairing.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Forlan (Athletico Madrid):
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andrei-Arshavin-c5771 are most probably on their way out of the Emirates this season and with the proceeds from their sales, Arsenal could very well sign a few players to strengthen their squad up front. The Arsenal ranks up front seem to
lack a bit of that cutting edge. Arsenal have a great striker in the form of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 but the Dutchman loves a free floating role in behind the main striker and due to Arsene Wenger’s persistence with a 4-5-1 formation, Van Persie has often dropped
deep resulting in a lack of bodies up front to attack the ball.
