  1. I think that in first world countries this problem is solving itself. The more luxuries and freedoms and wealth we have, the less people want to be tied down with families and children, especially at a young age. People want to be free to travel and do things that please themselves. Another reason for the first world population slowdown is the lack of a necessity to have a large family to ensure family survival. Medical benefits are very good and there is little reason any child in a first world country will not reach maturity.

I think the problem lies in the third and second world where many people have children as a means of survival and earning extra income or social benefit. Unfortunately many of these countries have governments whose problems are far greater than worrying about population control. I don't see a viable solution because in order to address the problem you would need the cooperation of virtually every government in the world and that just isn't going to happen.

  2. "Fixing" this situation is not something that's going to be easily swallowed because you'd have to reduce the population, and the only way you can do that is to kill people. Either by homicide, or by starvation, natural disaster, drought, or famine.

Contraception or the Chinese method of limiting by law would help, but we're already overpopulated as is. A good deal of baby boomers that were popped out after world war two are facing their final days, so that might relieve some burden.

  3. Overpopulation is impossible. Population will grow until the population limit is reached, in other words, the maximum population. When that happens, a catastrophe of some kind will wipe the population down until there is a small group, then that group re-populates, and the same thing happens. Take the Bubonic Plague for example. Europe was reduced by what? A third? Ancient civilization, huge massacres every decade or so. Diseases and low birth rates in Asia. Overpopulation is no problem, it fixes and balances itself.

  4. execute every murderer and rapist, and child abuser.

By my quick calculations that will mean that:

there are 2,319,258 rapists, murderers, and drug dealers in us prisons. Get rid of them and there will be more room for decent people to live.

  5. The crisis is now so huge that I think drastic measures are in order, measures most people would not be willing to take.  I think we need to start limiting the number of children people can have, ala China's one child policy EVERYWHERE.  We are using up the earth's resources at an alarming rate and our population will explode from 6 billion to 9 billion in 2050.  Scientists estimate we will then need the equivalent of 5 planets to sustain us at our current rate of consumption.  We either curb the population now through birth control or nature will do it for us through catastrophic measures (starvation, war over resources, disease).

  6. It'll take care of itself.  It's my opinion that human beings are an evolutionary dead-end.

  7. How to fix it would be easy. Those of you who think the world is overpopulated, just kill yourselves and then there will be less idiots worrying about population,of course,YOU people think YOU should live, dont YOU? Your nothing but little hitler's roaming around, course YOU dont see yourself as such do YOU!

  8. Don't make an HIV vaccine. Purposely don't find any cures for diseases even though there are some.

(I don't believe my answer but it is a way to control population.

  9. Make laws against s*x outside of marriage. Then you'll have a lot less unplanned pregnancies.

  10. Read Thomas Malthus', and 18th century demographer and political economist, work on The Principle of Population and the checks on population.

  11. Ever heard of lemmings??? They reach a critical population and then by the thousands migrate into the sea.

We are very close to reaching a critical population right now. The only thing is that for most critical populations it is disease that brings the population into control.

Our solution??? We aren't smart enough to stop breeding so the only alternative is to allow disease to run its natural course. It is obvious that diseases have been around for a very long time. The Plague of the dark ages. The Influenza of the 19th century during WWI, which by the way is what really ended WWI.

Today we have a myriad of diseases that can effectively bring the population under control. Let them do their job of culling the weak and infirm. As a result you will have a stronger population in the long run.

Do I think this will ever happen??? Well maybe. All it takes is one person to get a communicable disease like the Haunta Virus' -- the most well know being Ebola -- that person getting on a plane with 300 people and going around the world in say the 6 days that it takes to become terminal and you have a world wide plague.

Very easy to do. Who would survive??? Those isolated from the main population centers.

Easy isn't it????? Look at the movie "I am Legend" Real good way it could happen.
