Question:

Fix surfboard dent?

There's a dent in my board on the graphic, through the fiberglass. I would like to fix it myself if possible. What's the best way? I want to leave the graphic in good shape. The board is constructed of foam with fiberglass on top and a strip of wood in the middle. The wood strip is now exposed. Thanks!

  1. Ok, your situation pretty much sucks. What you'd have to do (in general) is cut out all around the indented part, and glass over it again. But, b/c your board has those oh so pretty graphics, you'd lose that and end up having a blank spot there. If you want to retain those graphics, your only option is to go to a repair shop, which you can usually find one through a good surf shop. And I'm not even sure they could do it. But, if you want to fix it yourself, then check out this website

its for epoxy boards, but its pretty much the same. And you'd need to pick up a ding repair kit, too. You can use epoxy resin to fix PU boards, but not the other way around.

  2. DONT FIX THAT YOURSELF!!!

I tried it once and I thought it looked good but the next week my board snapped in half!!!!

get a pro to do it! you'll be better off!

  3. your asking for to much if you want the graphic just take it to a shop. they can do a beeter job than you. but if you really want to do it your self than just use a ding repair kit (found at surf shop any way).

    good luck!

  4. get someone to fix it strong and watertight, and put a sticker over it...those graphics are not going to be saved, especially if you have let water get into the foam.

  5. cheapest way: buy a dent fix kit and use it I use it all the time

  6. The graphic is really nice. You can fix it yourself, but you'll spend several hundred dollars on materials and tools, invest a lot of time, and there's no guarantee that it'll look good when finished. If you like the board and plan to keep it, take it to a local shaper and get an estimate. Looks like a 200.00 job. Sorry, but a ding repair kit won't help you on this one. It needs fiberglass cloth, resin, a hot coat, and some pretty smooth sanding. It's cheaper to have a professional repair it for you.

  7. Hey I had this problem agest ago..

I was carrying my board home after surfing and I had a huge cut into it :/ from hitting the rocks before hand.

but I just brought some special glue from the surf shop and just sanded that down and now its good as new ^^.

But your dent like 5 times bigger than what mine was LOL

go get a pro to do it.

  8. Unless you have experience with fiberglass and resin, you CAN'T fix it yourself. Go to a good surf shop. They will have a ding man that can handle that for you. You have a couple serious issues there, but a good ding man can save your graphics, but there is  no way it's going to be an invisible repair. Save you pennies. To fix your board back to watertight condition, and save as much of the graphics as possible may cost as much as $200. US.
