Question:

Fix the Ford Explorer or pick up the Chevy Blaser?

I've had a 93 ford explorer for years. I love it. It's a tank that has been to h**l and back. It has gotten me through the toughest terrain and handled the most demanding emergencies. Problem is, it's showing its age with rust and front end issues (due to a car accident) along with yet another head gasket that needs to be replaced. The transmission is still running strong and I've been told these explorers have the best transmissions of SUVs.

On the other hand, I've got my eye on a 96 Chevy S-10 Blaser with about 7k more miles on it. I'm used to my explorer so I don't know anything about the reliablility, duribility, and strength of the transmission of the blaser. I'm looking for some insigt.

PLEASE HELP!

  1. I would stay away from the gm...stick with another ford or go with a jeep cherokee.

    go to edmunds.com

  2. I have always been a huge chevy  fan and have also had several ford bronco's and if you want the muscle your accustomed to you should stay with the bronco.

Although the blazer is a fine vehicle in it's own right it is not the beast your currently driving. Good Luck

  3. Buy another Explorer, right now they are real cheap..

  4. I don't know about the transmissions in the Blazers, but the Explorer has a stronger front axle under it. I'd stick with the Explorer and have any mechanical issues fixed, Then, as time and money allow fix the rust and body damage.

  5. personally im a huge gm truck fan. i think they make amazing trucks, but im not a big supporter of most of their sedans. however, i do not like the blazers very much. i would stick with the explorer its a great truck. on the other hand if u want an amazing truck, go with a tahoe(yukon) or surburban(yukon xl) those are quality machines

  6. Since you know the ford is reliable I would just fix 'er up and stick with ole' faithful before you get a fixer... it always seems like the one thing we want is the one which causes the most problem... It's up too you... I personally like GM.  The blazers are nice,  and I haven't heard of any major reoccurring problems with them..  Good luck with your decision!!

  7. Keep your ford. I'm all ford all the way. I owned one chevy and it was never anything BUT trouble. I couldn't leave my house without calling someone to come pick me up everytime, for a different reason everytime. I would fix one thing, and another would break down. 4 years of owning another ford and not once have I been broken down. It never fails to start.

  8. My friend, once you drive a ford, you can never go to a chevy

that would just break my heart :(...

if you are truly loyal to ford, fix up the explorer

they last forever and should last you 10 more + years if you fix it up moderately
