Question:

Fix the gears on my bike? Can't ride my bike...?

My bike was stuck on gear 2 (well would go up to higher gears but not down to one) but still ridable, so I guess like a tard I just left it alone.

Well I had to change my tires, and while it was upside down it got turned to gear 6 (on the handle). And now the pedals won't turn forward. I can turn them backward, but that doesn't help me ride it. Also the gears on the handle bars are stuck, they won't shift up or down.

The chain doesn't look lose or hanging, or crooked. How can I fix this?

Please give me steps, and use simple words OR pictures if you can haha.

BTW here is the bike if that helps. :)

*note - I don't have the money to take it to a repair shop. So i'm on my own with this.

And PS - I think this is what I need to do ... but wasn't sure and didn't want to attempt with out a 2nd opinion.

  1. When you say gear 2 or 6 I'm sure you're referring to the rear gears. The video you linked says it's for the front derailleur.

Before doing anything drastic, set the bike on it's wheels, loosen the axle holding the rear wheel, make sure the wheel is centered and retighten.

Make sure the chain is routed properly around the cassette and the rear derailleur.

If you didn't adjust anything while changing the tires your only problem should still be the same as it was before. To get the chain to change to the smallest sprocket you just need to back out the adjustment s***w on the rear der. until it shifts properly. There was a link on the video to one showing how to adjust the rear derailleur.

  2. Since you can turn the pedals backwards you must have it stuck in reverse.
