do you know how cardiac arrest result in fixed dilated pupils?

  1. Fixed and dilated pupils are a result of:

    1. brain death

    2. injury to the optic nerve, visual cortex, posterior hypothalamus or trigeminal nerve

    3. medications like ATROPINE which is given often in cardiac arrest.

    3. Drugs like COCAINE that are often present in people with cardiac arrest.

    Fixed and dilated pupils are only a sign that blood flow to the brain is not enough at this time or brain death has already occurred when other factor are not found.

  3. fixed dilated pupils usually means brain death. brain death from cardiac arrest is possibly from the lack of blood/circulation to the brain during the arrest. sorry.
