Fixing a chevy truck?

I am planning on buying a 92-95 silverado. I don't know much about fixing vehicles, are Chilton's manuals good for a novice, and do they show you how to fix everything.

  1. Well I got a 1994 GMC sierra 1500 4x4 (same as silverado basically) it has 195,000 miles and nothing ever goes wrong with it.And when something does go wrong with it you don't need a stupid repair manual because it is always something simple like a distributor cap...

  2. Chilton manuals SUCK!! Go with the Haynes manual instead. They're much more informative and better written. You'll be glad you did.

  3. they are ok...but they do not show you how to fix everything... they cover the most common issues.....if its not in the book...its over your head "repair wise"......and you will need pro help for those type repairs anyway....buy the truck and the book and your in biz

  4. I would check on e-Bay for a factory service manual for the model truck that you end up with. The factory manuals are much better. Plus if you find one on e-Bay it will at a reduced price.

I have bought a couple of manuals off e-Bay for my trucks and I'm glad I did.

  5. Between Chilton's and online searches, you should be able to figure out most anything.  There is a specific site under Chevrolet trucks that has a wealth of helpful info free.
