There is a little chip in my playstation 2 disc for a game. When i get to a certain part in the game, the ps2 can't load it. Are there any home methods of fixing this because i really want to finish this game because i'm in the philippines borrowing the ps2 from my cousins and i'm coming back to USA this saturday.

  1. Sorry, but you cannot really fix it. The only thing I could think of would be you purchasing another disc... which you could not do. Sorry.

  2. If its a chip you are pretty much screwed...If its a scratch try rubbing toothpaste on the disc with your index finger in lil circles. and then buff off with a clean towel

  3. It depends on the depth of the chip, and the direction it runs. If it runs more from the center toward the edge of the disc, it's not so bad, but if it runs in the same direction as an imaginary circular arc around the center, it interferes with the laser's reading path.

Toothpaste works for scratches, but since you said a "chip" I doubt that will do anything. If it's less than 1 mm deep, it may be possible to buff it out with a machine. Most specialty game stores have them: gamestop, game crazy, etc. It's about the only thing those stores are good for. Take the disc in there and ask them if they'll take a second to try to machine-buff the chip out. If you're lucky, they'll give it a shot, and if you're real lucky, it may make the disc readable again.

It's likely impossible to fix though. You can always find a cheap used cd and game store and get another copy for $5. Ps2 games are cheap and getting cheaper these days.
