what are some easy and cheap ways to fix cracks in a concrete driveway?

Also what types of driveways are the least effected by shifting soil and freeze cycles, and could I put any of those over concrete or would i have to remove all the old concrete?

  1. My father is an asphalt technician, and asphalt is honestly the BEST way to go, if you don't go cheap like the road builders do.

If you asphalted vs. concrete, you would have to demolish the concrete and put in asphalt.

As for fixing the cracks in your driveway...the only thing I can think of is to make a batch of concrete and fill in the cracks with it, and smooth it out to where it's all uniform.

  2. Using a crack chaser is what we in the know use and a product called ardex. Now if the cracks are in the control joints simply use a self levelling concrete caulk, carefull with this stuff as it's extremely runny and seeks it's own level.

These products can be bought at any good concrete supplier warehouse (whitecap Industries now called HD/Whitecap).It's actually a simple process and only mix small portions.

    Good Luck

  3. You can deal with the shifting soil and freezing cycle with concrete. Allot of re-bar. You cant put this over old concrete either. If concrete is what you want talk to a local contractor and tell him what you want. They cant stop it from completely cracking but they can control it.

  4. get concrete, and a tool to scrape, and put the liquid concrete in a bucket, then from top to bottom put a new sheet of concrete over the cracks, and let it dry for a few hours!
