Fixing a pleather couch? (fake leather)

My dogs tore up about 20% of the top of my pleather couch, and I found most of the top leather pieces and wanted to put them back on the top so no more stuffing is lost.. What kind of tape (BLACK) can I use to hold it back together and protect (somewhat) against wear in the spot that is tore? I thought about electric tape, but will it stick properly?

No.  electric tape is too narrow and will not hold.  You can find tape for repairing vinyl in fabric stores. Or try Wal-Mart.
