Fixing the origin period?

we have hear the reason that origin should be a stand alone fixture so all players can play for there clubs especially for matches with high expectencies in attendance. the thing against stand alone fixtures is that the nrl think that one game for one week end in not enough. i do agree but why not make more.

With the success of the under20s comp why not make a under 20s origin match on the friday night. on the saturday night have a state of origin B game with all players not selected for the main origin be given a chance. there is alot of depth and alot of players go through their career without a taste of rep footy so give em a chance a side like

kearney, campbell, josh perry, delaney etc V

wesser, cronk, odwyer, (mat rogers and sailor they would be awsome)

etc

The sunday arve have the main orgin match

the 20s match and origin B would be played at the venue that isnt hosting the maing origin i mean alot of people want to go to a live orgin but some cant travel

wat do use think?

  1. what you call a ' state of origin b team' already exists its valled city vs country all players who have not cemented a spot in origin side but are a possibility going to make it play in it.

i think origin fixtures need to be changed so players dont miss club games it potentially makes the difference between making the 8 and not, just give all teams the bye in origin week then get back to normal after origin.

  2. Good idea. I reckon there should at least be an under 20's game on given there's now an actual comp for them.

The only problem with making stand alone origin weekends is it would push the season even longer and you would have your top players playing nearly 32 games a year if they were to play every game available, it might lead to fatigue and/or more injuries to our top line players. At least with current set up the players get to have a week off.

I think its good that clubs have to deal with players missing, i do however feel for the Storm who went without 10 players at times meanwhile Manly only have one. I feel sorry for Manly given they played untouched during origin whilst the Storm gave up three games.

I do like your idea though.

  3. thats a very good idea just wondering now if any of the nrl topdogs ever read these. if not they should cause like youre idea there is some good ones fom time to time.

wot about qlders mitch, city/country is only nsw so its not really an origin "b team"..
