Shot in the dark, but has anyone ever heard of one of these things going to take off power on its own after switching from manual engine control back to ECU control on the pre-flight? I guess the pilot waited untill 60% to turn back on the ECU, and then it went to full power. Just trying to better understand the system in case I end up going on the road with the problem. Can the ECU actually trim the engine that much if something went wrong? Also, following his high power shutdown, he tried restarting and almost hot started, probably residual fuel from the poor shut down, maybe important information though.

  1. The ecu may have been confused, if it has a push button fadec type start then it briefly would push it wide open just for the start.

It sounds like maybe the pilot convinced it that it had flamed out and the engine tried to automatically restart. Either that or he had put the aircraft in a situation to convince the ecu that it needed full power.

Chances are that he just confused the h**l out of the ecu by putting it in a situation it should never had been put in the first place.

To tell you the truth, as a pilot, I think hes just not telling you everything. Thats a habit we have when something goes wrong. You wouldnt believe the stuff Ive heard.

  2. sounds like a computer glitch
