Flames pushed out of eighth spot as they lose 5-4 against the Ducks
The final game of Friday was hosted by the Calgary Flames as they were up against the Anaheim Ducks. The game was very important for the Flames as they no chance of slip up if they wanted to maintain they eighth spot in the Western Conference.
With Ducks leading at the end of the first period, Flames came up with decent performance over the course of the remaining two periods. They took the lead twice but let it go which finally resulted in going against them. The scores at the end of the period
were level on 4-4 but Anaheim Ducks scored during overtime to win the game 5-4 in the end. Curtis Glencross, winger of the Flames was named the star of the game for his goal and an assist.
The first period didn’t see much from both sides at the start. However, they grew in confidence with the passage of time and their attacks started to intensify. There were a few scoring chances early on but unfortunately they weren’t able to bag any goals
early on. Though it took sometime but the opening goal of the game was finally scored in the 14th minute scored by Saku Koivu from a quick fired well placed shot in favour of the Anaheim Ducks.
Flames had better of the chances in the period to score but they weren’t able to convert them into goals. Resultantly, it was Ducks who led 1-0 going into the break as they made 5 goal attempts in the period while Flames made 9 goal attempts in the period.
The second period saw both teams exploded from the start as they fired shots on goal regularly. With some strong pieces of play, Flames scored twice in the 4th minute to get into the lead. The equalizing goal was scored by Rene Bourque while the
second was scored by Olli Jokinen.
However, Ducks were able to get back together and combining excellently with each other, the Ducks levelled the scores with Saku Koivu scoring his second goal of the night. The Ducks were on a role and successfully got into the lead with their second goal
of the period in the 11th minute scored by Brandon McMillan.
The period ended with Anaheim Ducks leading 3-2 at the end. During the period Ducks made 14 goal attempts while the Flames made 7 goal attempts.
The final period of the game was more productive due to the fact that three goals were scored with fewer shots on goal. The Flames scored in the 6th minute through Captain Jarome Iginla to put the teams on level terms once again. For the second
time in the game, Flames took the lead with Curtis Glencross scoring in the 9th minute.
However, once again they couldn’t hold on as Ducks scored once again in the 18th minute through Teemu Selanne during power play to level the scores. There were no further goals as the regulation time period ended with the scores level on 4-4.
The game went into overtime as a result where Cam Fowler scored to win the game for the Ducks. The goal was a result of a brilliant backhand shot in the 5th minute and saw the Ducks winning the game 5-4 in the end.
