Question:

Flamingo-Like Finch?

by  |  earlier

My finch, Paul will be standing on his perch, and suddenly lift his leg up and hold it to his body, kind of like a flamingo. Do all finches do this? I just barely noticed him doing this, and I want to make sure his leg is okay, and not broken or anything. My dad joked that he had learned a new trick and was showing off, or that his great great great grandma was a flamingo. Which neither is a possibility. But what is wrong with him?

Thanks! :]

  1. It would be helpful to know what kind of finch you have.

This is not general common behavior in finches, but I wouldn't

    immediately assume something is wrong.

If you want to make sure nothing is wrong though, watch your finch, and check for these things.

Does it fly around quite a bit?

    Does it chirp and/or sing?

Does it seem to eat a lot for it's size?

Does it use both feet to grip when flying from perch to perch?

Does it have bright, fully open eyes?

    Does it like to bathe?

If the answer is YES to these questions, then I'd say your finch is fine.

If you answer NO to more than one of the above, then I would

suggest an avian vet visit. Or at least closer observation over

    the next day or so.

Feel free to contact me directly if you wish further assistance.

  2. actually this very normal even parakeets do it.so dont worry about it

  3. It's perfectly normal.

It's just like if you're standing and you c**k your leg out to the side so you're putting more weight on one than the other.

It's just a comfort thing.. They'll do it when sleeping, relaxing, etc.

    Nothing to worry about.
