Question:

Flappy Padal Manual - Passing the Driving Test

I'm not far from my 17th birthday I've practised in car parks and stuff, and I'm terrible at the biting point stuff on a straight manual.

I'm not actually going to do this but I wanted to know if you could - quite a few cheap cars have the option of getting a flappy padal gearbox, which is clutchless. This still counts as a manual car, so could you use a flappy padal to pass a test?

UK driver by the way.

  1. No, mate.  The official view is that if it has a clutch pedal it's manual, if it doesn't it's automatic.  You could take your test in one of those but you'll only get an "automatic" licence.

  2. No, any vehicle with a semi automatic gearbox or clutch is classed as an automatic. Just keep trying, it will come to you in the end.

    Good Luck.

  3. No, because - as Harry O above says, you will only get automatic catergory on your licence. If the car has a clutch it is manual, if it has NO clutch then it is auto - whether you can change the gears or not.

Good luck with your test :)

  4. You haven't had proper lessons yet, but if the biting-point is a problem to you, just practice until it isn't.  On level-ground, you should be able to learn how to use excellent clutch-control to move the car through a 'three-point turn' without using any throttle!  Just the torque the engine is making at idle.
