Flash error. My son has the MyMusix PD-6030 MP3 and all of the sudden it has this message "flash

My son has the MyMusix PD-6030 MP3 and all of the sudden it has this message "flash error! please backup the data and format the player". He has had this MP3 and used it daily for months, I don't understand what this message means. I plugged it into my computer and formatted it, everything seemed ok. I put some new songs on it to see if it would work and now I get the same message. I've done this 3 times now. Is this MP3 now ruined? Do you know what this message is about?
