  1. A flood is too much water in a location that does not usually have water. It can be fast moving near a river that is going over its banks, but the further out from the river, the slower the water moves. The water takes a while to drain away.

A flash flood occurs when a lot of rain falls some distance away or a dam gives way, and there is a rapid rush of water that follows whatever path it can. In the south and west, there are dry river beds that can turn into raging torrents with little warning. The water usually rushes through and dries up fairly quickly.

  2. a flash flood can occur in seconds, that's why they call it that. literally in a flash you're in water up to your armpits. :) a flood can take longer but be even more severe in the long run. floods are simple, too much rain and inadequate drainage. flash floods start especially during hotter weather when the air is supersaturated with wator vapor

  3. The time taken to cause the flood is the factor that decides whether it is a flood or flash flood.Flash floods can reach their maximum flow in minutes and achieve a heights of 3 metres.

Coastal floods are caused by bad weather, especially when it coincides with high tides,or huge waves, tsunamis, that form at sea.

River floods are caused when more water enters them than they can discharge. The usual causes are heavy rain or snow meltwater.Ice jams can temporarily dam a river, and release a torrent of water when they give away.Artificial causes include altered river courses, deforestation resulting in increased run-off and burst dams.

Sudden torrential rain concentrated in a narrow channel produces a flash flood. So, if there is intense rain for short duration the severity of flash flood may increase.
