Flashback: Dani Pedrosa wins Indianapolis Republic Grand Prix – MotoGP Special
Dani Pedrosa of Repsol Honda won Indianapolis Grand Prix proving the strength of his Honda machine.
He was followed by the Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo with a gap of 10.823 seconds. The victory was attained by the Honda rider with an impressive strategy. Despite trying to win the race Lorenzo was unable to catch the fast paced Honda rider.
The gap between the Honda and Yamaha rider was 10.823 seconds. Third position of the event was attained by the Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Alvaro Bautista who finished his race with a gap of 17.310 seconds from the winner of the race, Pedrosa.
The Indianapolis event witnessed some incidents which caused 6 riders to remain unclassified. The rider which crashed includes Cal Crutchlow teammate of Bautista, Randy DE Puniet of Power Electronics Aspar, Ben Spies of Yamaha Factory Racing, Michele Pirro
of San Carlo Honda Gresini, Mattia Pasini of Speed Master and Danilo Petrucci of Came IodaRacing Project.
The Indianapolis was the second unlucky event for Ben Spies. An interesting thing to notice is the time of the unlucky period which matches with that of the announcement of the American rider related to his departure from the Yamaha Team. Yamaha and Rossi
got into an agreement starting from the next 2013 season.
At the Indianapolis GP, Rossi was only able to make it to the 7 position after starting from the 11th grid. The ordinary performance was blamed to be due to the problems he faced during the race.
Rossi said, “I started well and the early laps weren’t bad, although the bike started to lose oil right from the beginning. It went on the footrests and the brake- and shift levers, which bothered me, as my feet were slipping everywhere. I probably could
have done a bit better without that inconvenience, and maybe I would have finished close to Dovizioso. Anyway, I also had to slow down because the rear tyre began sliding too much after some laps, which has been our problem.”
The event witnessed the passion of the Honda rider, Casey Stoner who went to race, injured. He faced an accident prior to the event even then he chose to race after being declared fit for race even though he had a lot of race. He finished the race at the
4th position. He was later sent back to Australia for the surgery of his ankle. The accident of Stoner proved to be devastating because he was third contender of the championship in the current season after Lorenzo and Pedrosa.
It is sad that Stoner lost the chance of championship due to his accident but we all we can say is its part of sport.
