Flashback: Jorge Lorenzo wins the Spanish Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha Factory Racing won the Spanish Grand Prix impressively whereas the new chassis of Ducati helped them making it to the second position at their home circuit, Misano.
The event at Spanish GP was an interesting event to watch because during the race a lot of things changed. The changes were both good and bad for the spectators of the sport as there was a crash in the beginning of the race which eliminated the pole position
holder, Dani Pedrosa of Repsol Honda.
The crash made it easy for the championship leader to win the race, however the incident also made things even between the two riders as even Lorenzo had an unfortunate incident early in the season at the Netherland Grand Prix.
The event had an emotional significance as Marco Simoncelli crashed on the same circuit a year ago. The Misano circuit is named after him.
Another important factor of the Italian GP was second position of the seven times world champion Valentino Rossi. It was the last race at his home circuit with Ducati team as he had earlier announced that he will be moving to the Yamaha team for the next
2013 season.
Rossi said, “It was a really nice race, and I’m very happy. It’s a great result, which I’d like to dedicate to Sic and his family, Paolo, Rossella, and Martina. I’d also like to thank all the guys who work with me and everyone at Ducati Corse who are giving
their best, like me: after two difficult years, we really needed that. I’m very pleased because we did a dry race at a high level, always with a fast pace, and with a limited gap to Lorenzo.”
The event was unlucky for the Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow because he was expecting a podium in the Spanish GP. He was also victimised by the crash and was eventually retired.
The third position on the podium was attained by Alvaro Bautista of San Carlo Honda Gresini. He had said that it was an emotional event and he could feel the support of the late Simoncelli.
The Spanish GP was a turning point because it changed the championship in a way as Lorenzo was able to set a huge gap. Both riders said after the race that they would not consider the mathematics of the game rather they want to enjoy the sport.
