Flashback: Veteran Dani Pedrosa of Repsol Honda wins Aragon Grand Prix – MotoGP special
The Aragon Grand Prix was a remarkable victory for the Honda rider Dani Pedrosa because he crashed in the Italian Grand Prix held on September 16, 2012.
The Honda rider has exhibited impressive performance over the circuits in the current 2012 season by making it to the podium in most of the races in the current season.
Pedrosa told that his efforts, consistency and rhythm have made him achieve such a victory over the circuit. He was able to set a convincing gap of 6.472 seconds over the Yamaha rider.
He said, “I tried to maintain my rhythm and put some good laps in, so I was able to open up a good gap and the bike was working quite well. The bike was working well overall and especially in the corners. Thanks to all of the mechanics, my fans and my family
– this victory is for them.”
The qualifying round of the Spanish GP witnessed a few different strategies and some incidents. Pedrosa had successfully attained the pole position until the last 5 minutes of the qualifying lap however Lorenzo went for another visit giving his maximum.
It was the last lap of the Yamaha rider at the eleventh hour of the qualifying round in which he attained the pole position.
The pole position did not prove to be useful because he was unable to sustain it for long and the Honda rider crossed him. Then he did not do any mistake which could give the championship leader any chance to get close to him. The factor which gave Pedrosa
edge over Lorenzo was his top speed along with his consistency over the circuit. After the race Lorenzo accepted that they have to improve their bike in order to remain competitive.
Lorenzo said, “His [Pedrosa] bike had very good pace and I was unable to catch him. So now we have to think about improving the bike a little bit but we are still in good shape to try and win the championship.”
The Italian circuit witnessed an incident, Nicky Hayden of Ducati had a narrow escape. While he was trying to push hard on the circuit he lost control over his bike and his bike went towards wall. He did not jump from his bike because if he had he could
hit the wall against his head. Valentino Rossi the other rider of Ducati could not prove the improvements they made in the chassis and could only make it to the 8th position.
Lorenzo and Pedrosa are old rivals and have been battling over the circuit since Lorenzo started his career however their fights over the circuit keep the sport interesting for spectators.
