Does anyone know any good websites with free printable flashcards or activities that help with vowels, or combining letters like th, er, ph etc. Or something that would help explain why letters are silent etc.

We are trying to help our 5 yr old practice her reading skills, she does pretty good with sounding words out, but she gets stuck in her beginner reader books when they start adding vowels etc. Thanks! We’re a bit rusty, Its like I know what you should do, but its been so long since I had to think about why I don’t want to teach her the wrong way.

  1. A Beka which is a home school organization has a great phonics book.  Unfortunately I am not certain of the name of it but I do know that it has a picture of an apple and an A+ on it there are a lot of great resources there to go along with it.  That book is a great aid throughout they years

  2. This site might help - there are some free printable flashcards on it.

    http://www.mes-english.com/phonics/files...

  3. http://www.starfall.com has some good computer based phonics activities.

  4. We explained that the silent "E" makes the vowel in the middle sound like itself & used the Leapfrog DVD's; Letter Factory, Talking Words Factory, Code Word Caper, and Story Book Factory...which helped my son to read independently since the age of four.  There is also a website called www.starfall.com that has online books and games that your child can read and play for free.
