Flashed-to-Sprint Blackberry 7750, unlock code to get it back to Verizon? For free?

Is there any way I could get a *free* unlock code for my Blackberry 7750? It was a Verizon to start, got flashed (by the previous owner) to Sprint, now I want to reactivate it on Verizon. The Verizon people say they think they can do it, as long as I give them the unlock code.

The local Sprint shop people, who I think just discovered electricity, were hardly helpful. I see all these sites online that will give me unlock codes for $20+. Not attractive.

I have never seen any free unlock codes. People charge for them because they have contacts that they PAY to get the codes from within the wireless companies or from RIM directly...
