My sister's Ford Fiesta's handbrake light kept flashing on and off while she was driving. What could be the problem? She has got new after market wheels few weeks before it starting to happen. Could that be the problem? It first started when she was doing emergency brake it flash while she was doing it. And in 2weeks time it kept flashing random.

The Red flashing light has got P in it and it comes on when you apply the handbrake.

Many Thanks in advance

  1. FORD ( Flip Over & Read Direction)  LOL!!!

  2. no sensors on the rear shoes...check your brake fluid level....its low.

  3. Take Desert Camels advice and check out the brake circuit.  The flashing light would indicate a fault.

  4. it may be the switch at the handbrake that is faulty  the light will flicker or may be front brake pad warning wire but if it was the front pads the car would probably be making a metal grinding noise when braking & the foot brake would not be very responsive

  5. There are several potential reason for this, check the following:-

    1) Thickness of the front pads.

    2) Level of brake fluid.

    3) Check that the handbrake switch is correctly set.

    4) Check under the car to see if the wires from the hand brake switch has not been damaged.

I don't think that the change of wheels will have changed anything to worry about.

    Ja.

  6. same as above brake fluid needs topping up ..as you brake the float in brake fluid resevoir is sensing low fluid .

  7. sounds like the brake pads need changed, when they get thinner there is a sensor that lights up the little red light to indicate the pads need changed, the changing of the wheels is just a coincident.
