Flashing red light on the x box 360

Question

i have a xbox 360 and there is a red light flashing instead of the green i have been told that it has someting to do with the solder coming away from the mother board when it over heats. i have been told that i can return this to microsoft and it gets repaired free of charge is this corect many thanks mark wall
