Flashy Lassie to meet Georgie’s Angel in the $100,000 Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga on 5 July
Trained by Garry Simms for owner Barry Kings, Flash Lassie started off her career this year with two emphatic wins, one which surprised her foes more than anyone else.
The 2-year-old filly won her $20,000 maiden claimer in her first attempt on 13 May, 2011, and gave her sire, Flashy Bull, a flashy side as a stallion.
Flashy Bull’s 2-year-old daughter made her pedigree proud by a nine length victory over her foes, at a distance of four and a half furlongs in 52.19 seconds.
The joy of a first attempt maiden breaker wasn’t enough for the fast filly, as she showed what she can actually do in the Grade 3 Debutante Stakes.
Jockey Corey Lanerie guided the filly to her maiden win, but couldn’t assist her in the Debutante Stakes.
His replacement was none other than Kent Desormeaux, who roused the filly to cover a distance of six furlongs, longer than her maiden triumph.
Churchill Downs was again the venue and on 25 June the duo worked their magic as the filly was the least favoured to win the race.
Bullet break from the gates, Flashy Lassie under jockey Kent Desormeaux, the pair picked up pace in the early furlongs, tracked leaders until a switch was made from Kent Desormeaux on the outside and it gave Flashy Lassie a little bit of day light to work
her magic.
Blistering pace surprised everyone as the filly fizzed past Five Star Momma and Queen Teuta to claim an unlikely graded stakes win.
She defeated Five Star Momma by a length, who finished second with Queen Teuta behind her to claim the third place. Flashy Lassie was a 17 to 1 favourite to win the race
The win inspired her connections, as they have entered Flashy Lassie in the $100,000 Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga race course over at her favourtie distance, six furlongs.
On the other hand trainer Todd Pletcher who trains Georgie’s Angel for owner Ronnie Sheffer of Sheffer Racing Stable, entered Georgie’s Angel in the $100,000 Schuylerville Stakes.
The Daughter of Bellamy Road broke her maiden recently at Churchill Downs under J Castanon on 7 April.
She completed the 4 ½ furlong distance in a fast 51.23 seconds. Todd Pletcher is expecting big things for this filly as she defeated her rival Magic Moondust in the maiden race by 6 ¼ lengths.
According to Pletcher, the filly has trained well all summer and went on to run even better in the Maiden Special Weight.
She is expected to repeat that performance in the $100,000 Schuylerville Stakes on 5 July.
Both, Flashy Lassie and Georgie’s Angel, will be among 7 other fillies, making it a field of nine 2-year-old fillies to run just above six furlongs.
