Flat Out among the favourites to win the Grade 1 Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs
Things look all set to go for the first grade 1 race of the fall meet, the Grade 1, $500,000 Clark Handicap and with it, the contestants have turned in their final work sessions ahead of the Churchill Downs feature event which is aiming to host 12 or so
prospects for its purse.
The 5th placed Breeders’ Cup Classic runner, Flat Out will be under jockey Alex Solis and will look to bounce back from his disappointing 5th place finish in the Classic to winner Drosselmeyer.
The Florida bred son of Flatter, out of mare Cresta Lil by Cresta Rider, Flat Out will be declared the likely favourite to win the race and would want to open up his winning horizons to post a win outside of Belmont Park this season where he has been exceptionally
well landing 2 in as many starts.
The first race of the season at Belmont Park for Flat Out was the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap, and the 5-year-old Scooter Dickey trained horse downed the likes of Hymn Book and Rodman on the way to glory.
He won the 1 1/8 mile event on dirt with the winning time of 1 minute and 46.64 seconds on 2 July, 2011.
His second start at Belmont Park was in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup, and to win a race of that magnitude was really something for Flat Out as he destroyed the lineup defeating the eventual Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Drosselmeyer back then and Mike
Repole owned and Todd Pletcher trained winner Stay Thirsty in the third place finish.
The 1 ¼ mile long race was ran under Alex Solis who guided the horse well to top the distance in 2 minutes and 3.17 seconds.
Scooter Dickey was pretty happy with the work Flat Out has turned in ahead of the Clark Handicap, as he blew off half a mile in quick time for the 1 1/8 mile long race over Churchill Downs fast main track 19 November, 2011.
“I didn’t want anything great, but it was great anyway,” said Dickey. Flat Out will be under Alex Solis yet again, and he will carry a top weight of 123 pounds.
