Flat Out brought his A game in the 30 October work at Churchill Downs and impressed his trainer
One of the main contenders of the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile, 5-year-old Flat Out is turning it on in his workouts as he did it again in his 30 October half a mile work, when he zipped a half mile in a hair raising 46 3/5 seconds at Churchill Downs early
morning.
Trained by Charles “Dickey” Scooter for Preston Stables, Flat Out is coming off an impressive victory in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup where he managed to defeat Todd Pletcher’s classic runner Stay Thirsty, who finished third and a rampant Drosselmeyer
who finished second on the day.
The race was run at Belmont Park on 1 October, 2011, over at 1 ¼ miles on dirt, as jockey Alex Solis guided the son of Flatter, out of Cresta Lil by Cresta Rider, to an emphatic win with the winning time of 2 minutes and 3.17 seconds.
Flat Out’s morning workout also impressed his trained Dickey Scooter, he said “It was just what we wanted, what I was expecting him to do,” Scooter mentioned that ever since the got his feet squared, Flat Out has been running very well and turning in workouts
in better times.
Flat Out posted impressive fractions of 12 1/5 seconds, 23 4/5 seconds and 35 1/5 seconds and then he galloped out five eighths of a mile in 58 4/5 seconds.
The Kentucky bred experienced runner also won the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap at Belmont Park on 2 July, 2011, under jockey Alex Solis, where he ran down Hymn Book and Rodman who finished second and third, respectively, while Flat Out wrapped up the 1 1/8
mile distance in 1 minute and 46.64 seconds.
He was second in the Grade 1 Whitney Handicap and Grade 1 Woodward Stakes, both races run over at a distance of 1 1/8 miles and at Saratoga.
Tizway won the race in the Whitney Handicap, and the top filly Havre de Grace kept Flat Out honest throughout in the Woodward Stakes.
Flat Out on 30 October, worked under exercise rider Greta Kuntzweiler, as he kept it in a straight line in the middle of the track.
