Flat Out turns in a massive workout session ahead of the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs
The Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup winner, 5-year-old horse Flat Out is going to make his next start in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic on 5 November, 2011, at Churchill Downs.
Necessary tune ups are essential to assess the experienced geldings’ fitness ahead of the 1 ¼ mile test, as the brilliant runner displayed continued sharpness when he turned in a bullet of five furlong work over his home track.
On early morning of 15 October, Flat Out emerged from his stall to rip one out on the fast 1 mile oval, and under the tack he fire a bullet of five eighths of a mile under jockey Greta Kuntzweiler in :59 4/5.
Trained by Charles “Scooter” Dickey, Flat Out turned in an impressive run as his run was the fastest among the 46 other over the same distance, but his work was divided in fractions to be more acute on his fitness and to see at what point he lets it all out.
All in all he galloped out 6 furlongs in 1 minute and 13.80 seconds, and covered the seven eighths of a mile in 1 minute and 28.80 seconds.
Flat Out has an amazing 2011 season, after hardly running in the 2010 season due to plagued by quarter cracks through most of his career, but he overcame those foot woes to show how good of a horse he is in this season.
By far the successful campaign, Flat Out in 2011 has had 6 starts as he landed two of those and finished second on three occasions with a single sixth place finish.
The son of Flatter, won the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap after bouncing back from a 6th place finish in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap.
Flat Out’s second win was the best performance of his 2011 season, as he bagged the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park defeating the Travers and the Jim Dandy Stakes winner Stay Thirsty in the process.
This year Flat Out has earned $992,613, after six race which has shot up his career earnings to $1,109,713 with 5 wins out of 12 career starts.
