Flatscreen TV cables.....what to wire?

I'm about to hide the cables for a flatscreen tv in my wall and i only get one shot because once they're in....the wall will be skimmed and finished. Apart from 240v, what other cables should i through up to keep it up to date with modern inputs for the next 10 years or so?

So far, i was thinking 2xScart 2xHDMI 1xCoax but i don't know if anything else new & cutting edge will require more? Someone also mentioned component video? Your thoughts are welcome.

  1. Id put in a component cable as well and maybe even a DVI cable just for good measure.

Just make sure they are all top quality cables and the HDMI ones are rated to the newest specifications (HDMI 2)

  2. You can't.

What is 'modern' today will be superseded in just a couple of years, never mind 10.  You'll just have to hope you make the right choice for now...

  3. The best thing to do is to run a peice of conduit with a pull string always in the conduit.. but just slide one hdmi one coax a one component and a rca that way you have everything covered, even if your components don't have a hdmi output but the conduit will help out allot in the future just make shure to always keep a pull string in it and if it is possiable find a "nose plate" to cover the holes up with that way the new and old wires will be covered and also have play to move more freely and it just looks better ....

  4. I'd add component and HDMI 2 cables (if you can get hold of HDMI 2 yet).

  5. Run a conduit and you'll be able to easily pull new cables in the future.
