Flavia Pennetta defeats Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in 1st round – Western & Southern Open 2011
29-year-old Flavia Pennetta defeated 20-year-old Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova by leaping back from a set down in the main draw to secure a place in the second round of the Western and Southern Open 2011. The two were meeting for the
second time on hard courts of Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason Ohio and were familiar with each other’s style and technique. Panetta came out triumphant with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory in one hour, 59 minutes, and eighteen seconds.
Pennetta with her geometric precision struck zero double faults, along with no aces. While, opening the first set was Pavlyuchenkova with a foot fault and an ace.
Both the players were unable to save any break-points, however, the two had managed to win 100% of each other’s break points, but the Russian (Pavlyuchenkova) broke her opponent thrice and hence gained a competitive edge.
The Russian had an excellent serve as she was able to win 57% of her total service points, whereas, the Italian (Pennetta ) had a failing serve which resulted in her attaining 10 out of 24 points, making it a mere 42% win of her
total service points.
Pavlyuchenkova was only able to achieve a pitiable 32% of her returns due to her opponent’s poor performance in the return serve as compared to her return and bagged a pathetic 20% of her total service points and lost the set.
After failing miserably Pennetta was unable to bear the shame and she had to restore her dignity, while, in the second set Pavlyuchenkova saw a complete reversal of fate, and was unable to win the second set.
Reviving her fore hand, along with well placed shots, that enabled Pennetta  to bag a grand 71% of her total service points, while her adversary had a good 62% but her serve did not match up to Panetta’s.
The two had a similar return, with Pennetta scoring a 38% win in her total return points, against her rival who had a pitiable 29% in the total return points.
By the second set both the players had spilt a set each and embarked on a 40 minute third set. Panetta closed out on her adversary by gaining 7 more points in the total set points. The set was an easy victory for Panetta.
The 29-year-old Italian had perfected her serve and with flawless precision struck zero double faults, however the Russian again committed four double faults, losing most of her points.
Following her victory Pennetta said, "I'm really happy about this match today".
Italian Pennetta accomplished the set by restricting her opponent to only three games and was also able to lead in the head-to-head with 2-0.
