Flavien wins sixth stage and Guillaume retains overall lead in 2011 International Tour de Martinique
Selection Martinique team’s Marc Flavien won the sixth stage of 2011 Tour de Martinique on Thursday, July 14. Guillaume Malle maintained his overall leader’s jersey.
The race started in Sainte Marie and ended in Trois llets. The 22-year-old Flavien took a total of 2 hours, 50 minutes and 53 seconds to cover the distance of 105.5 kilometres.
Jose Alexender Roa Guerrero of CESMA was the runner-up and Boris Carene of Selection Guadeloupe finished in the third position.
Tomasz Olejnik (USSA Pavilly Barentin), Mickaël Laurent (Pedale Pilotine) and Cedric Eustache (Selection Martinique) were in fourth, fifth and sixth places, respectively.
Marc Flavien also took the overall points standing with 98 points, while Boris Carene was in the second place with 69 points.
A group of nineteen riders crossed the final line with the same timing of the sprinter. Philippe Palmiste of Selection Guadeloupe was in good form and tried his best to take a lead, but failed to maintain his pace and grabbed the 21st place with a difference
of 12 seconds ahead of Wilfrid Neror (Selection Martinique) and Kerane Barolin (Selection Guadeloupe).
A group of five riders made their lead in the beginning of the race including, Clement Saint-Martin (USSA Pavilly Barentin), Jose Alexender Roa Guerreo (CESMA), Boris Carene (Selection Guadeloupe), Masaru Fukuhara (Team Bridgestone Achor) and Cedric Eustache.
All of them gained a lead of few seconds ahead of the other riders.
With only a few kilometres to go, Jose Alexender and Clement Saint-Martin launched the attack over the peloton, but Cedric was able to hold his pace so he took the mountain standing with 27 points. Cedric also took the overall King of Mountain classification
with 162 points.
Guillaume Malle (Veranda Rideau Sarthe) took the overall standing with a timing of 19 hours, 32 minutes and 50 seconds. The stage winner, Flavien, was the runner-up with 1 minute and 35 seconds behind, while Boris Carene came in the third place with a difference
of 3 minutes and 22 seconds.
The next stage will start in Trois Ilets and end in Saint Esprit. All the riders will cover the distance of 128 kilometres.
