Flavio Becca of RadioShack-Nissan challenges the Judge’s integrity on Alberto Contador’s case
Flavio Becca has raised concerns on the transparency related to Alberto Contador’s hearing. RadioShack-Nissan’s owner targeted not only the cyclist and his team, Saxo Bank, but also doubted the judge’s fairness on the matter.
The reasons behind Becca’s claims are simple and factual as he told Le Quotidien, “When I saw that in the CAS commission, an Israeli judge will decide the fate of Contador and soon after discovered that Saxo Bank has its own training camp in Israel, I do
not think we are on track".
The Danish team, Saxo Bank held its pre-session training camp in Israel recently, from November 29 to December 11, 2011.
The training camp was not scheduled while the team members were also observed training a bit differently, riding locally and building a cycling school for locals.
Doing the charity work was definitely a noble cause but Becca believes that the action was taken only to catch the judge’s attention and to change the fate of their star rider.
A total number of three judges are on the panel to give the final verdict on Contador’s case.
Ulrich Haas of Germany, Quentin Byrne-Sutton of Switzerland and Ephraim Barak of Israel, (president of the commission) will determine the cyclist’s future.
Flavio briefed, "An Israeli judge will issue a ruling on Contador, and Saxo Bank is doing its training camp in Israel, even being officially received by the Government. There are two facts that cannot be separated. At this point, I think everything is already
decided".
The cyclist was tested positive for clenbuterol during the Tour de France 2010 and was suspended during the investigation.
Although initially the Spanish Cycling Federation proposed a one year ban, it later accepted Contador’s appeal and acquitted him from the charges.
UCI and WADA challenged the decision and took the case to Court of Arbitration for Sport in March 2011.
A review by CAS was originally planned in June 2011 and was postponed until November 2011.
The cyclist’s future will be decided by the mid of January. However, different reports are pointing to a direction that the decision on the standout stage race winner, Alberto Contador has already been made.
