Flavio Briatore criticises Michael Schumacher’s move in the 2012 Brazilian GP – Formula 1 news
Former Benetton and Renault team boss, Flavio Briatore has criticised Michael Schumacher for letting Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing to overtake him in the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix.
Schumacher allowed his compatriot, Vettel to pass him during the season finale which helped the 25-year-old in securing 6th place finish and eventually claiming his third consecutive world championship title.
However, Briatore has criticised the seven-time world champion for his action in the last race of the season. Moreover, according to the Italian, Schumacher’s intentions were to help the Milton Keynes based team in the championship fight.
“The way he (Schumacher) behaved in Brazil was not good. His preference was that Red Bull beats Ferrari,” said Briatore.
In addition, he said that Vettel’s teammate, Mark Webber was the only driver who helped the Scarlet team.
“The only one who helped Ferrari was Webber,” he added, referring to Mark Webber.
It will be important to note that Briatore is not the only one who has criticised the 43-year-old as the president of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo has also expressed his remarks against him.
Montezemolo said that he expected a little bit different final race from the veteran German driver.
“I was expecting a slightly different final race on the part of Michael Schumacher”, Ferrari president Montezemolo admitted last weekend.
The 65-year-old disagreed with the stance of the record championship holder because their driver, Fernando Alonso lost the championship by just 3 points and came second in the drivers’ standings.
After the Brazilian GP, a debate was started over Vettel’s overtake which according to a video clip was during the yellow flag as the warning lights were blinking in his cockpit. Eventually, the Italian team took the matter to FIA for the necessary clarification.
In return, FIA declared the move completely legal and the issue was considered closed. Afterwards, Ferrari faced a lot of criticism over their unofficial appeal to the Federation.
Nonetheless, the team principal, Stefano Domenicali explained that they had to go to FIA so as to satisfy their fans, broadcasters and investors.
