Flavio Cipolla, Alex Bogomolov through to second round of BNP Paribas Open 2011 qualifiers

Flavio Cipolla thrashes Phillip Simmonds 6-2, 6-2 
World number 170 Flavio Cipolla of Italy defeated world number 465 Philip Simmonds of US in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in the first round of the qualifying draw at the BNP Paribas Open 2011 on Tuesday.
The Italian broke his opponent twice in the opening set, winning it 6-2. He hit 63 per cent of the first serves, winning 80 per cent of the points on them in the first set. On the other hand, his opponent hit 50 per cent of the first serves and a single
ace.
Cipolla continued his dominance in the second set. He did not allow Simmonds to come back in the match, winning the second set with the same margin, 6-2.
The Italian saved the only break point he faced in the second set. At the same time, he converted 2 of the 4 break point opportunities he received in the second set.
Cipolla won 60 per cent of the total points in the match. The contest lasted for 1 hour and 8 minutes.
The 27-year-old will face world number 446 Luka Gregorc of Slovenia in the next round. Gregorc upset world number 126 Julian Reister of Germany in the first round.
 
Alex Bogomolov Jr. beats Stefano Ianni 6-0, 6-2
American Alex Bogomolov Jr. outclassed Stefano Ianni in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 to move to the second round of the qualifying draw.

The 27-year-old took just 48 minutes to oust his opponent in the first round match.
The American completely demolished Ianni in the opening set, winning six straight games to clinch the set 6-0. Bogomolov broke his opponent three times in the first set. The right-handed hit a single ace and 60 per cent of the first serves. In comparison,
Ianni did not hit any ace in the opening set.
After losing the opening set easily, Ianni showed some resistance in the second set. However, Bogomolov did not allow him to come back in the match, winning the second set 6-2.
The American hit a single ace and 74 per cent of the first serves in the second set. He saved both break points he faced in the set. On the other hand, his opponent could save only 1 of the 3 break points he faced.

Bogomolov is slated to meet Frank Dancevic of Canada in the next round in the pair’s first-ever meeting. The Canadian defeated world number 636 Steve Johnson of US in three sets 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 in the first round.
