Flavio Cipolla ousts Paul Capdeville to reach the main draw – China Open 2011
Seeded at number three in qualifying draws, the Italian competitor, Flavio Cipolla, faced limited resistance in disposing of the fifth seeded Chilean, Paul Capdeville in the final round qualifiers on Sunday afternoon.
The contest was staged on the outdoor hard courts of the Olympic Green Tennis Center, in Beijing, China, with Cipolla displaying his brilliant tennis skills to oust Capdeville in a comprehensive manner. The third seed wrapped up
victory in one hour and eleven minutes, settling the final scores to 6-3, 6-3, to move into the main rounds of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 500 event.
It was a completely one-sided contest, with Cipolla dominating every minute of play. The Italian took hold of the game right from the beginning and never lost control of it all the way through. Cipolla delivered 74 per cent of
his serve on target and reeled off 26 out of 37 first serve points in the matchup to come out as the winner in the end.
The Italian made the most of his opportunities in the matchup and converted four out of six break points to drive his opponent out of the competition. Capdeville registered merely one break point out of his five chances to finish
on the losing side.
The action took off right from the opener, with both men striving hard to get the early advantage in the game. Cipolla nailed the first serve break of the day in the third game to lead 3-1 in the first set but Capdeville retaliated
a couple of games later with a break point to bring him back on even terms. Cipolla then upped his gears and launched a series of forays upon his opponent, breaking the Chilean serve on two consecutive occasions to wrap up the first set at 6-3.
Once pocketing the opener, Cipolla carried on his belligerence in the next set as well, breaking Capdeville’s serve in his very first game to lead 3-0. The Chilean failed to recover from the damage done by the early serve breaks
and eventually succumbed at 3-6, to let Cipolla into the main draw of the China Open.
