  1. The body is able to absorb the ground flaxseed. Does your package say whole flax seeds or ground flaxseed? You must grind the whole flax seeds before sprinkling/ eating them.

  2. I have a coffee/spice grinder that I use to grind my flax.  If I only need a tablespoon or two for sprinkling on cereal, then that's all I do.  If I need a half cup for muffins or something, then I do more.  You're better off to grind them, and to grind them fresh.

Be sure to drink plenty of water when using flax, as it can bind you up.  Conversely, it also is good if you have an irritable bowel (IBS)  That's the funny thing about fiber, it can help both extremes!!

  3. no, the body will not absorb it. Its like sesame seeds, they come out whole. You need to grind the up first, and let me just warn you now. its good for you but it tastes like c**p

  4. If you sprinkle them on your food as whole seeds, they will not be absorbed by your body.  So:

    (1) Store whole seeds in your fridge.

    (2) Use a coffee grinder to ground the seeds. (Not all at once, bits at a time)

    (3) Store ground seeds in your fridge.

  5. yes

  6. You teeth should be able to grind the flax seeds. If swallowed whole, the body will not digest it. This is similar to corn. Expect to see some floating in your toilet! XD

I place mine whole in my food. I sometimes eat them like a nut (as is) or put them in stir fry. They don't have a very strong taste. You can buy flax seed already grounded too.

  7. I've heard the same thing. I know that the whole seeds just pass right through your system. They don't necessarily need to be ground up small, but they do need to be broken. Basically it's a matter of, how well do you chew your food? You can grind them up in a little coffee grinder, or just put them in whole and try to be really conscious of chewing them well. I believe flax seeds contain a fair bit of oil, so be aware of that perhaps gumming up whatever mechanical device you might use to grind them.
