My kitten got fleas and I can't seem to get rid of them. I can do a powder or something, but I can't get frontline or anything like that at this time. i bathe her frequently to try and get rid of them with little luck. I am close to just getting rid of the kitten because the fleas get on my little girl. I really need to get rid of them. Any good suggestions?

  1. Fleas are very bad this season. When I give my cat Frontline Plus it only makes the fleas worse! Go to your local vet and ask for a CapStar pill, you can give it to your cats once, or even daily if you need to. They kill the fleas with in 30 minutes of your cat taking the pill. They really are amazing! I buy mine one at a time for around $3 at my local vet. You can order a whole bottle online for about $45 to $50, but I would suggest you go to the vet and try one before you buy a whole bottle. Hope this helps and good luck with your kitty!

    ***EDIT***

Also, this sounds terrible, but it works wonders! If you spray the original listerine (not mint or any other flavor) that gets kills the fleas. Give your kitty a bath, then dry her really well, and then spray a fine layer of listerine on her. I promise, it doesn't burn or hurt the cat.

  2. GIVE IT A BATH IN DAWN! Dawn dish washer soap is a good way of killing fleas without harming the kitten. I've given bathes to kittens as young as 13 days old and it kills the fleas but doesn't harm the kittens.

Give the kitten a bath in dawn soap about three times, and then wash it down real good with water to get the soap out.

    Good luck!

  3. Since the kitten is so young and you can't use frontline, try buying a flea comb (pretty cheap) and brushing her out VERY good.  After every swipe with the comb, rinse the comb in warm soapy water (to kill the fleas you comb out)  this does not get rid of all of them and it needs to be done at least once a day, but it will help lessen them until your kitten is old enough for frontline.  Store bought flea shampoos do not work and flea collars are useless.  Don't buy anything other than the flea comb and frontline, nothing else works.

  4. The only thing I can suggest is Frontline.I tried other things like you and they just don't work. You can buy it at Target for cheap.

  5. Hi, I used to have 6 cats and 2 dogs.

Not only do you have to kill the active fleas on the pet, but you also need to break the cycle in your home.

Flea lavae spend some of their life in carpets and soft furnishings, so the best method is to Hoover the house thoroughly, remove pet bedding and wash it - hang it out to dry. Give your pet spot on, or the tablets already mentioned, then use a household spray to kill those still living in the home.

Lay out the pets bedding in one room - and spray liberally - turning over - then bundle up into a binbag to seal it.

The house spray comes in large cans from the vets, and is more effective than over-the-counter types.

I actually bought a military gas mask for doing this as I know they work - and couldn't hold my breath for that long!

Sounds a bit dramatic - but we never had a flea problem afterwards.

Make sure you do it on a morning that you can be out all day - then ventilate well after you get back.

A short term measure to trap the blighters, is to lay fly paper on the floor, and position a desk lamp over it, next to an old alarm clock.  Sounds strange, but hungry fleas are attracted to warmth and vibration - they hop on - then get stuck! It certainly reduces numbers - or gives indication of how bad things are.  For really bad infestations, I would recommend a talcom-powder based product - just shake it on, leave for a few days, then hoover out. We had one room the pets used to treat as theirs - this got the ful treatment!

  6. wash your kitten with dandruff shampoo for humans.  It stuns the fleas so they will fall off.

wash the bedding the cat sleeps in , with HOT water to kill flea eggs.  Vacume your house and toss the bag.  flea eggs will hatch in the dust containers.

Raid makes a spray for your carpets and house that has a IGR in it that works wonderfully.

  7. Go to petco and get this flea and tick stuff it works on my DOG but they make it for CATS hope it helps! And  they make a special soap for fleas and ticks

    10 points please

  8. Hi.  First and formost; sprinkle moth flakes around. Thiswould be better done just before you are to leave the house for a few hours.  Upon arriving home, vaccumn up all the flakes.  Empty the bag and replace with a clean one.  Add a few moth flakes to it. This will kill any future fleas and\or eggs you vaccumn up.  Then give your kitten a bath and while wet smooth in some table salt.  You will see the fleas and eggs drop of into the water. soak and keep kiten busy in the water for about five minutes.  Rinse well, and dry good.  You may have to repeat this every month for awhile. If kitten is an outside kitten  I'm not sure it will work forever.     GoodLuck.
