Flea infestation, but I have no pets?

I'm very lucky to have a vacation house in the country. Right now the house is infested with fleas, but I don't have any pets. Since I am not there much what can I do to get rid of the fleas and keep them away? My exterminator has visited several times, but because there is no-one there to vacuum daily he said it will be hard to get rid of them.

  1. if you get a fogger from your pet store it will kill all living bugs in your home if you have carpet you might have to get rid of it depends on how bad it really is..

A fogger is a wonderful thing kills everything,,they sell them by one or buy 2 depends how big your home is..

extermainator will keep coming back cause they want your money

  2. fleas live off blood so there has to be a "food" source for them to decide to stay.  what you need to do is find out what the source is so you can tackle the problem.

there are 4 stages to a flea's lifecycle - eggs, larvae, pupae and adults.  you need different chemicals to kill the different stages and you have to follow through to completely get rid of them.

i have had a bad flea problem a few years back when i had 4 cats and i hired a company to fix the problem.  they weren't able to take out the fleas but they did successful take a few hundreds dollars out of my wallet!  in the end, we realize the fleas are here because they were feeding off my cats...so we treated the cats.  then the fleas moved on to the human population in the household and that was tough we had to spray repellant on our legs every single day.  eventually the fleas got nothing to feed on, stop laying eggs and died off (or moved on).

if you have been vaccuming thinking you have gotten rid of the fleas, hold that thought cuz you have only relocated them inside your cleaner and that sure won't kill them.  so if you do decide to "bomb" your house (some require you to turn off pilot lights, some don't - becareful about it!) and then clean up by vaccuming, remember to sprinkle flea killing power on the carpet so that will be taken into the cleaner with the fleas...and dispose of the bag immediately.

hope this helps and good luck!

  3. Bomb the house then set out some flee bait it's just like the roach bait even thou you have no pets if the house is in the country and you have a lot of trees and grass around you can still get them be glad there's no ticks.

  4. Fleas live on people, as well as animals.  It's odd that they're choosing to stay in your vacation home because you're not there.  There may be a mouse problem or perhaps some animals living under the house.  Check this out, because fleas wouldn't just decide to live in an uninhabited place.

Take extensive measures.  Since you're not there all the time you can do something that would be more extreme like super-bomb it.  You'll *have* to come back in about 10 days to repeat the process because the eggs aren't affected by bombings.

Getting rid of fleas isn't hard as long as you stay on track about it.  Kill the fleas, let the eggs hatch, kill the baby fleas before they grow up and lay more eggs.

  5. hire a maid? but only if you dont have any valuables in the house (i.e. jewlery, money, china, t.v. so on..) because you will not be there watching them and they could take it or just watch tv and not work. call a neighbor near that hose every so often to ask wether or not the maid has been comming. GL!
