Question:

Flea medication overdose!?

Some idiot in my household gave a flea treatment for a 23-44 lb dog to a 4 month old kitten. I rinsed it off right away. Scott gave it to him like 20 minutes ago. So far he's acting fine. What do I do?

  1. First, I think I would question why they put a flea treatment specifically for a dog on a cat.  This can definately kill it.  Rinsing it off quickly was the best thing to do.

If it starts shaking, hiding, vomiting, trembling get it to the vet asap.  This can poison the cat.

  2. call 911

  3. Wash it immediately with a mild soap (dawn dish soap if you have some)!  Watch for any lethargy and call your vet right away if he is showing signs of a reaction.  Check the pupils, watch for foaming at the mouth, things like that.

  4. As long as you washed it good with some mild soap the cat should be fine. Just monitor him and maybe wash him again tonight and once tomorrow just to be 100% sure he's fine. The worst possible thing that could happen is a little skin irritation, but even then you are supposed just wash with mild soap and rinse thoroughly.
