Question:

Fleas and babies.....

I have a bad flea problem. I no longer have the cat, but I still have the fleas. I've tried a gentle remover, but it didn't work. My son is crawling all over the place so I'm nervous about chemicals. Any baby safe alternatives?

  1. I agree with the borax.  It is probably the most gentle thing you can put down to kill the fleas.

Put it down right before bed, and keep the babe off the floor till you vacuum it all up!

  2. unfortunatley flea eggs can survive up to 3 years - so although they wont have a host anymore, they will keep hatching.  Probably the best thing you can do now, aside from killing the fleas when you find them, is to vacate the house for a day, and have somebody do a really good spring clean of the carpets and soft furnishings (a powerful hoover is good to suck up the eggs).  Anything that can go in the washing machine, wash at 60 degrees to kill the eggs.

  3. I asked about roaches (yikes!) a couple of months ago.  Read the "Best Answer."  I haven't seen a roach since and everything I read about that stuff said it was safe to eat!

P.S.  We had fleas so bad once a few years ago we had to put the cats outside and pull up all the carpet.  They're a real pain in the butt!

  4. i don't know if its safe for the baby.. but borax will definately kill the fleas.. you can find it in the laundry detergant isle.. i think it has to stay in the carpet over night then you can vacuum..

  5. I know how you feel. We just got rid of our fleas. They would multiply and we don't even have cats! My ankles were so bitten up! It itched so bad.

1 way to get rid of them is to get an exterminater which cost 120 and they spray your whole house. Then if it looks like the exterminater didnt get rid of them they will do it agian for free. It's call termix center. After there done clean your home really good, vaccum, mop, dust.

2 way is to bomb your home with this stuff that is very strong. You leave it and lock all of your windows and shut the doors. Get your family out and go somewhere for 2-3 hours. Then clean.

3 way is to clean your house really good vaccum your run , couches, basement, beds everything you have. And get this spray called flea spray it's for carpets and furniture. If you see a flea jumping on you you can spray it and it will die.

HOPE I HELPED. WHAT CAN I SAY? ITS FLEA SEASON!

    WHY TWICE?

  6. Vacuum Daily

Vacuum everything, under and atop the sofa and under tables, especially where the cat liked to sit and rest.

Add a few moth balls to the vacuum bag or throw out the bag after vacuuming.  The moth ball idea will save you from throwing out the bag as often.

    Laundry

Bedding, towels, throws... things that can be machine washed... again where the cat liked to lay and sleep.

    Edit...

Since you have a crawling baby, I would avoid pesticides and borax (toxic to babies) unless you plan to leave the house for a few days (which you then can flea bomb).

Also, eggs do not and cannot live up to 3 years.
