Fleas killed one kitten. How soon could the other die?

I recently realized that my 2 week old kittens had severe fleas as does their mother. I did everything I could think of, Dawn soap, Garlic, lemon juice in water, borax... EVERYTHING. I just have been worried about the effects of store bought products on such young kittens. I spent the night at my boyfriends house after making sure that the kittens were being cared for by their mother and that they were relatively clean. I had vacuumed about an hour before I left. I thought they would be fine. I came home about an hour ago to find one kitten dead. He hadn't been dead long. (No rigor) I burst into tears. I located the other one and he is alive, and not as covered in fleas but he is still bleeding. I washed him again and combed out as many as I could. Now I am about to head to the store and see what I can find that I can use on such a small kitten. I am terrified of losing the last one. Its my cats first litter and Im so afraid that she will lose the last kitten. What would you folks suggest I do about this continued infestation? I dont want to lose the last kitten.

  1. You should keep him in a bathtub for one whole day!!!

  2. go to local pet store or wal mart and there is lots of flea and tick product just for kittens and u HAVE to bathe the baby kittens with flea shampoo. and u can even purchase flea collar and put arround kitten's neck. and u can try vaseline too.. and there wouldn't be anything wrong when u use adult ones.

  3. If you don't want to use flea shampoo, then wash your kitten in soapy water and let the kitten soak in the water. You can also get a flea comb and brush you cats everyday. Also vacuum everyday, then after wards sprinkle your carpet with salt. Good Luck.

  4. If they are in your house then your house is infested You'll have to treat the entire house to get rid off the fleas...  As for the kitten wash him off, get rid of the old bedding, it's infested with fleas and their eggs.  Go to your vet get a pill called a capstar, if I remember right you can give it to them at 2 weeks of age, also put revolution on the mother after you treat the house.  Email me if you have any questions on how to treat  your house, I can tell you how to do it effectively for $50 if your house is under 2000 sq ft.  Also, keep your cat on revolution.  And spaying and neutering would help to solve the kitten problem when there are soooo many homeless animals in shelters and wandering the streets

  5. Take all the kittens to the vet and get RID OF THOSE FLEAS!

  6. I would suggest a VET!

If you already lost one there is a chance that there is some other cause contributing to their bad health.

A vet is the best way to prevent anymore tears.

  7. i am so sorry honey. i just had the same problem. we had 4 kittens 2 weeks ago. 1 died because he was sick. 2 died because of the fleas.we have 1 left. he is fine now. ok this is what i did. get frontline for all adult cats, you can use it on the kitten when he is 8 weeks. it work on the mama and then the fleas on the kitten would jump on her and bite her and die. it was like weeding them out. it is safe for nursing mamas.as far as the house, i have done all those things you have. the vet said to do the borax every 10 days , 3-4 times. i agree with you , i don't like the people who only want to tell you to get her sprayed. i am not doing it either.i hope this helps you. good luck!!!! enjoy them!!!!

  8. There are products at the store to help but honestly if you've lost one already and the one you have left is already bleeding from fleas you really need to take him to the vet ASAP. And for the mama cat you can try the store flea killers and then put flea collar on her. Once they are both taken care of you need to give your house a good cleaning so they have a chance to get rid of them. Keep them in the house at least until they are flea free. And get MAMA fixed please! Much better on her health.

  9. If I had kittens with fleas the first thing I would think of is the Vet!

  10. No store bought flea products they will kill the kitten. Get the mother cat to the vet and the kitten now.

  11. Your kitten died of flea anemia; this is when the flea burden is so large that the blood is sucked out of the animal - literally.  The second kitten is at very high risk as they are in the same environment.

You need to take your kitten to the vet to have it checked out to see how anemic it is, second step - treat the mother with a top spot product like advantage as this has a residual effect and will help cut down on the number of fleas.

There are no products you can use on a 2 week old kitten so if the kitten is able to come home with you, you need to keep it in a flea free area and you need to flea comb any fleas out 3-4 times daily.

Start with a trip to your vet - sooner rather than later.

    Good luck with it all.
