I have two cats that I love dearly. One is Sister, and the Others name is Kiwi. Kiwi has fleas really bad and now they are all over the house. The fleas have been eating on my foot really bad. I have little red bumps all over my legs, and feet b/c of this. I know people talk about how good advantage is, but I can't afford to get the product. I take my cats to the vet on a normal bases for their shots and check-ups, etc; but besides all that i can't afford a $30-$45 product. How can I get rid of these fleas from my carpet (home) and from off my cats....?

  1. We've had a bad flea infestation this year, and it's been a long time since I've had one.  I had to spend $100 on products for my three cats and my dog, up until that point I had tried ALL the cheaper products and non worked..

Good vacuuming will help with the fleas on the carpet, but I'm afraid you'll probably need to inves the $30-40 for the product from the vet.  The good news is you should get three doses so that will take you through to the first hard frost which will kill the fleas.

I've been told that sprinkling garlic on your cats food will help, but I never saw any results from this.

  2. flea shampoo, for  the cats and raid for fleas for carpet

  3. You are going to waste a lot of time and money purchasing "c**p" over the counter products vs purchasing Advantage.  Advantage is proven effective.  Break the cost down per month and it is $8 to $10.00.  The vet base or a low cost clinic should have it.  Go the Pet Med Express route.  Vet Kem has house hold sprays.  You will have to treat all pets in house hold for at least 3 months for fleas.  Treat the house 2 times, 3 weeks apart.  Look at cutting something out of your house hold budget to treat your feline family members........

  4. Many anti-flea preparations, such as shampoos, sprays and powders are available from veterinary offices and pet stores. You will want to treat both your cat and your home.. Sprays that are designed to be long lasting are the best bet for ridding your home of fleas but before using the spray, vacuum all carpeting, drapes, mattresses and upholstered furniture making sure that you vacuum underneath the furniture. Vacuum and then wash your cat's bedding in very hot water.

Before you start, pop a mothball into the cleaner bag and when you are satisfied that you have vacuumed thoroughly seal the cleaner bag in a plastic bag and dispose of it outside.

If you are opposed to the use of chemicals, fill a shallow bowl with sudsy water and stand a safety candle (night light) just above it. Alternatively use a battery light. In the dark fleas will jump at the light, fall into the water and drown. This will work but you will need at the least one for each room, and you may not get every last one of the fleas.

If your cat is allowed into your garden keep your lawn cut and free of weeds. The larvae of fleas love a humid environment and hate sunlight. Remove any piles of leaves or earth from your cat's territory.

  5. I'm still looking for something that will keep fleas off my cats, but I found something that got rid of the ones in carpet and fabrics.  It's called Sergeant's gold household flea & tick spray.  The only place I've been able to find it is Giant Eagle grocery.  Petco, for example, doesn't carry it.  It comes out in a fine clear mist that won't leave things gunky or discolored like some other sprays.

  6. you got a lot of good answers already so i will not repeat those but you may also want to buy  ( seven bug) powder you can find it in walmart lawn and garden area and sprinkle it a round your yard it does not hurt animals

  7. got the same old problem

  8. I wish I had better news for you, Dan, but you are in for it. You need to treat your pets immediately to rid them of fleas. Dump their litter box contents in the trash, outdoors.  Next you need to move the cats out of the house, protect all foodstuffs and bomb the house with flea bombs. This will kill all the live fleas. Within the following two weeks, the gestation period of any eggs lying around will be over and these will also hatch. Hence, you need to bomb a second time at the 12-14 day mark -- this will have interrupted the flea life cycle -- none of the new fleas will have bred and you will have rid your home of these nasty little creatures.

Next you must make certain that you do not reintroduce fleas into the home. If your cats are indoor/outdoor animals, you have no choice but to treat them from spring through fall. If you buy the anti-flea meds in bulk they are less expensive. Try to get at least a six pack. You can use 1-800-petmeds or search the Internet for the cheapest price.

Sorry about all those nasty bites. Don't hesitate to get started -- those nasy things are multiplying by the millions while you wait.
