My cat has dry fur. Its almost as if she has dandruff. I was using a flea comb to comb her and saw some brown bugs in her fur. Everytime I comb I get one or two of them out. They don't look like a tick and I don't know if its a flea. They are almost tan and dark brown and flat. What should I do? I have a flea collar on her now, I put it on last night.

  1. fleas jump off the comb if you catch them ticks are slooow

  2. Well if the flea collar isn't working you should see the vet for some ADVANTAGE....A couple drops behind the ear and he's good for the whole month!

  3. It's sounds as if your cat may have biting lice as they are tan in colour and are flat in appearance.

You can eliminate them by using products from your vet like Frontline or Advantage which kill lice, ticks and fleas.

    All the best.

  4. Well it's almost definitely fleas because ticks latch on to a cat from outside and proceed to suck their blood (not very nice) eventually they drop off but you wouldn't be able to get them off with a flea comb. So i would go to your vets and get some frontline (which is applied on the scruff) and kills most fleas which can then be combed out, but you can't touch that area for 24 hours otherwise you get on your fingers (and it stinks) and upset the whole process. It usually works and the pack comes with 6 sachets i think. I would also get some flea powder to put on your carpets and sofa's because that's where they are likely to hide if they jump off your cat or the flea comb.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Collars are still an economical and useful way of controlling Fleas and Ticks but you must begin the use of the BEFORE you see any signs of Fleas or Ticks. If you already have them it is to late for the collars to be effective and you will have to approach eradicating them with another method. If you begin using a Flea and Tick collar before any sign of Fleas or Ticks be sure to do some research before you purchase one. Many collars not only kill the adult fleas but also will in addition make the eggs sterile.

In addition you may want to reconsider using a Flea and Tick collar on an indoor cat. They usually have a strong medicine smell and leave a very oily feeling from the insecticide on the fur of your pet, which you will feel and smell every time you pet you cat. While not my first choice they are easy, cheap and a lot better than doing nothing, if used before any sign of Fleas and Ticks.

  6. You can buy Capstar and Frontline Plus here which will definitely kill all the fleas on your cat and prevent reinfestation.

Use the Capstar right away. It will kill all fleas on your cat with in an hour. It is imperative that you do not skip this. Frontline Plus is only effective if the flea bites the cat. Fleas have a 3 week lifespan and only feed for a few days of that three weeks, so you must use Capstar to kill all live fleas on your cat. After you capstar add on the Frontline Plus with in 12 hours and it will keep fleas off your cat for 30 days. No vet visit required and totally safe. Any eggs that hatch will be killed when they feed by the Frontline.

Frontline contains fipronil, which spreads via the body oils killing fleas within 24 hours and ticks within 48 hours. Ticks are generally killed before they bite, decreasing the risk of tick-borne disease transmission. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

Frontline Plus also contains (S)-methoprene, an Insect Growth Regulator, which prevents an insect from maturing or reproducing. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

You can use FRONTLINE flea and tick control once a month and it's completely waterproof. Provide your cat with the best flea and tick protection, right from the start.

Capstar - Treats flea infestations on pets. Starts killing adult fleas on the pet within 30 minutes. One dose lasts 24 hours. Use when pets are likely to be exposed to fleas. Also may be used prior to surgery, boarding, or grooming. Active ingredient is Nitenpyram, which interferes with the normal nerve transmission of insects, effectively killing them. Not a preventive. For pets over four weeks of age. Package of 6.

  7. Hi i sounds like fleas, here is a web site of pics of them just go on this site and type in fleas: WWW.PICSEARCH.

Ticks stick there feeders in the animals so they wouldn't come out with brushing the pet. Hope this helps.

  9. Bath your cat in origional dawn dish washing liquid. This will get some of this off of her, if you see bugs moving around and squirming in the water or on your cat, it is fleas. My recommendation is to then buy a flea medicine at your vet. I used De Flea and it seemed to help quite a bit. If you find that it is fleas, then vacuum your whole house and wsh any blankets or cat beds she might have been on.
