Fledgling pigeons no longer in nest.. have they flown? :)

Hi, all. I have/had a sweet little pigeon family living in a bicycle pannier I left on my balcony. About a month ago, the two eggs hatched and adorable baby pigeons appeared in the nest. The parents continued to hover almost constantly (well, taking turns, anyway), just as they had over the eggs, for the next couple weeks, but then their presence dropped off considerably. I checked the nest today, and the little babies were no longer inside (I'd last seen them in there about two days ago). Did they most likely leave the nest, being out of the fledging period? Or does it sound too soon for that? I'm going to leave the nest there for a week or so so that they can return to it if necessary... hmm.

  1. Sounds like they are on their own. But to be safe leave nest for a week or so more. Just in case. The Fledglings will join mom and dad now on the ground and roost and beg for food there. :)

  2. They leave the nest at 25-32 days of age..so the timing sounds about right for them to have left on their own.
