I am going to make a fleece blanket with two pieces of fabric for my 6 foot tall boyfriend. I was wondering how much fabric I should buy.

  1. I made a fleece blanket for my boss (who was 6'3"), and I used 2 pieces that were 2-2/3 yards, or 8 feet.  I know that's a little long, but he loved it and had me make one for his father, who is 6"4".  ;-)

I'm only 5' tall, but when I make one for myself, I use 2-1/2 yards.

  2. For baies, toddlers and elementary age kids I always use 1 yard.  For teen girls I will use 1 1/2 yards but for I use 2 yards for teen boys and average size men and the ladies.  For big and tall folks I use 2 yards.

By using these measurements, I find I have the right size for everyone.  Watch your fleece sales and sign up for the mailing list at Joann Fabrics so you can get it either on sale or for 40% off.  Do not forget the day after Thanksgiving Sales where fleece is always dirt cheap and flannel is about $1 per yard.

    Hope this helps!

  3. Fleece is normally 58-60 inches wide.  If you get 2 1/2 yards, that would be enough.   That would be 18 inches longer than him and give plenty of "drape" to cover his feet and he could still pull it up to his chin.  :-)

  4. 2 & 1/3 yards....7 feet . Extra room to snuggle ;)))
