Fleet Dawn respected on handicap debut – Wetherby’s Totescoop6 Handicap Hurdle
Showing enormous improvement, Fleet Dawn completed a double in the novice hurdle events in August. Back from a break, the 6-year-old is highly likely to find the required progress to defy mark on his handicap debut at Wetherby, where he is due to show up
in the Totescoop6 Handicap Hurdle this Saturday.
After facing a few unlucky defeats under the care of John Coombe, the 6-year-old joined Brian Ellison’s yard in July this year. His first ride for the new handler did not go well, as he finished sixth behind Forgotten Symphony at Market Rasen.
He quickly ironed out the flaws, and registered his first victory on the same surface in early August. By beating Samtheman by half a dozen lengths, the Prism Bloodstock-owned raised many eyebrows.
He further silenced his critics by taking a fascinating triumph at Sedgefield. Showing superb work in the hands of Danny Cook, the novice took the honour in the John Wade Group Novices' Hurdle (John Wade And Collins Seafoods Ltd Hurdle Series Qualifier).
It was an impeccable run.
Despite an early mess, the young gelding did not lose courage. The 85-40 chance tracked the leading pair nicely until 3 out, and subsequently led a couple of furlongs before the wire. Jumping left in the final stages, the P. Murphy-bred easily captured the
first place by seven lengths.
After two outstanding efforts, the son of Polish Precedent is full of confidence, and should not let his supporters down in today’s event. He is due to face 11 rivals in the class 3 meeting, which is scheduled to get started at 15:25 GMT. On good to soft
two miles and 110 yards, the contestants will hunt a cash prize worth £6,498.
The entire line-up is dangerous, but Fleet Dawn should particularly stay cautious of Meetings Man and Lightening Rod, who are closely matched on the recent form here.
Meetings Man showed great confidence when taking the runner-up spot after suffering a tumble. Micky Hammond’s charge is surely open to improvement. A similar situation is with Lightening Rod. After being disgraced on his seasonal comeback, the 7-year-old
roared back to share the podium at the start of this month.
