Fleet ready to participate in 2012 Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup – Sailing news
After a successful conclusion in 2011, the fifth edition of Harbor Cup and Cal Maritime Invitational Intercollegiate Regattas, the 2012 Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup is set to commence from March 9 at the Los Angeles Harbor. The 10-team regatta fleet is
preparing to participate in the regatta and prove their skills on water.
The regatta will be sponsored by the Port of Los Angeles with the Los Angeles Yacht Club as the organizing authority, while the California Maritime Academy of Vallejo will host the cup that is sure to produce some of the best sailing competitions. Last year’s
regatta was clinched by the host club, California Maritime Academy by 22 points.
As per schedule, the event will be featuring 10 races until March 11, the final day of the regatta. The regatta fleet will sail on the Long Beach Sailing Foundation chartered yachts, Catalina 37. The Catalina 37 boats will also be used in the upcoming match
racing classic, the 48th Congressional Cup at Long Beach.
The host club is definitely the hot favourite to win the regatta as their past record also supports their dominance over the fleet. Other participants that can challenge the host academy during the regatta are the winners of 2010 Port of Los Angeles Cup,
USC, the U.S. Naval Academy team from Annapolis and the 2011 John F. Kennedy Cup winners Md.
