Flemenstar diverts focus on Cheltenham Gold Cup
Flemenstar has set his eyes on the Cheltenham Gold Cup, but it has not yet been decided whether which event he will take part in. It will certainly be a Grade 1 encounter, as he has the ability to be competitive at the highest level of the sport.
According to his trainer, Peter Casey, he will wait and see the form of his challenger before determining his fate.
He stated, “Flemenstar has been entered for the Gold Cup, the Queen Mother Champion Chase and the Ryanair Chase. The Hennessy will be his next race and no further plans will be made until after we see how he gets on at Leopardstown.”
Casey went onto say, “We felt he deserved another chance over 3m and we're in no hurry to make any Cheltenham decisions until after the Hennessy. He's in super form and enjoying regular visits to the beach.”
Flemenstar has been making his team proud since the very start of his career. He is a quality performer and has managed to maintain a terrific winning percentage. His rivals always fear him and they will be hoping that he does not come out with the same
sort of aggression, with which he has been dominant over the past many years.
The Stephen Curran’s owned gelding started off his career in 2010 and was unable to complete his maiden race. He was rated as the favourite to succeed back then, but unseated his rider, J. P. McKeown.
However, he did not have to wait long for his first victory, as he was successful in his very next outing. He waited for the next year and trained hard in the stables to match the best in the business.
Things went well for Flemensfirth’s son during the next season, but he saw a few ups and downs. He was lacking consistency, which was not a positive sign for his team.
However, he kept on improving his performances with the passage of time and managed to win seven races on the trot. This was really impressive and he will look to be equally strong in 2013, if not better. He will have to face a stiff competition though,
and only time will reveal what he manages to attain at the end of the year.
