Flemenstar lands a magnificent victory in the Grade 1 Powers Gold Cup Chase at Fairyhouse
Trainer Peter Casey's effort on Flemenstar truly materialised in the Grade 1 Powers Gold Cup Chase on 8th April, 2012, at Fairyhouse. The young runner entered the race as a favourite with the odds of 11 to 10, and pleased his
connections as he exceeded expectations.
Owned by Stephen Curran, the son of Flemensfirth, out of mare, Different Dee, was mounted by jockey A.E Lynch as he took the victory and left the rest of the competition behind.
He defeated the M.F. Morris trained, Rathlin, by a massive margin of 11 lengths, a distance he could not overcome towards the end.
He easily bolted through the course and gracefully tackled the fences, which gave him the lead that he needed.
Rathlin, son of Kayf Tara, out of mare, Princess Timon, was ridden by D.N Russell. The seven-year-old struggled a bit on the fences, which cost him the victory.
False Economy, trained by Michael Hourigan, finished third as he fell five lengths behind the runner-up, whereas the W.P Mullins trained, Call The Police, finished in fourth place.
Casey to the press that: "It is unbelievable," he further stated that "I am delighted. I can not believe it. I just cannot believe that the horse is that good He is very good, I am delighted with him.
"I was over two or three times this week looking at the ground but the ground makes no difference to him."
Flemenstar has certainly left a lasting impact on the enthuisiasts of this sport with his victory. His performance was memorable and he will have a bright future if he continues to race in this manner.
He has not been defeated this season yet, and chances are he will maintain his standing in first place for a long time.
He bolted through the track in the Grade 3 Naas Directors Plate Novice Chase at Naas on 11th March, 2012. He raced as a joint favourite with, Bog Warrior, and defeated Frisco Depot by 5 ½ lengths.
He won the race in such a magnificent manner that he will race as a second favourite for 2013’s Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup with odds of 8 to 1.
